About Kundalini

Kundalini – a force to be approached with curiosity and respect
First and foremost, kundalini is considered a fascinating part of our inner world that perhaps invites both exploration – and respect. By understanding and working with this energy, doors can be opened to a more conscious and meaningful life.
What does Kundalini mean?
The term kundalini often arouses curiosity and mystery, and has captured the interest of people around the world. It refers to a form of life energy that lies dormant at the base of the spine.
But what does it really mean to awaken this energy and how can it affect our lives and our consciousness? In this article we would like to shed light on the fascinating mystery surrounding kundalini.
Etymology and symbolism
The word Kundalini comes from Sanskrit and means "coiled" or "spiraled," often referring to the energy that lies in a spiral at the base of the spine. When kundalini is awakened, it is traditionally believed to rise through the chakras - which can lead to a deeper understanding of ourselves and the universe.
Kundalini is often represented by a coiled serpent – a symbol of power, potential and awakening. As the serpent moves upwards through the chakra system, it symbolises a journey towards self-realisation and spiritual enlightenment.
Rooted in ancient traditions
Kundalini has its roots in ancient Indian traditions, particularly in tantra and yoga. Historical texts such as the Yoga Sutras and Shiva Samhita describe various methods for awakening kundalini and how to navigate the power that is released.
Various cultures throughout history have recognized the importance of this energy, demonstrating its timelessness and universal significance.
When the energy awakens
When kundalini is awakened, many practitioners report physical and emotional changes. These can include increased energy levels, deeper meditation, and a sense of euphoria—but also bodily tension and emotional release.
It is therefore important to approach kundalini awakening with awareness and respect in order to be able to handle these intense experiences.
Challenges along the way
From our own experience, we would like to continue this article with an important point – especially if you have not previously come into contact with the meaning of kundalini.
Despite the positive aspects , the path can be filled with challenges. Many report intense emotions, physical symptoms, or even crises associated with the process.
That's why it's important to have the right support by your side. An experienced mentor, a safe group or a teacher you trust can be crucial. Equally important is to listen to your own body, to take it at a pace that feels right for you and to be careful about your own limits.
At the end of this article, you can watch an insightful video in which the Indian yogi Sadhguru talks about kundalini and its awakening.
Ways to awaken Kundalini
There are many different paths and practices - which can go hand in hand with each other - such as:
✨ Kundalini yoga – combines physical exercises, mantras, mudras and breathing techniques to awaken and direct life energy up through the chakra system.
✨ Meditative exercises – stillness, visualization or deep concentration that creates contact with the body's subtle energy flows.
✨ Pranayama – powerful breathing techniques like Kapalabhati (fire breathing) or Nadi Shodhana (alternating nostril breathing) clear blockages and balance the nervous system.
✨ Mantra and sound – sacred words, chants or intonations whose vibrations can stimulate the chakras and open the mind to deeper consciousness.
✨ Mudras (hand gestures) – subtle (finger) positions that direct the energy in the body and can enhance the effect of meditation.
✨ Regression and progression – guided inner journeys that lead backwards in time or forwards into possible futures. Through these processes, hidden emotions, patterns and insights can be released and create space for new flow.
✨ Energy meditation & creative techniques – dancing, painting, writing or intuitive movements that allow energy to circulate freely and be integrated into everyday life.
✨ Various forms of healing therapy - reiki, shamanic healing, hypnosis or energy therapy can support the process by releasing blockages and creating balance in body and mind.
✨ Sound healing – vibrations from gongs, shamanic drums, singing bowls, crystal bowls, mouthpieces, etc.: sweep through the body and can take you to a state beyond everyday consciousness. Many describe it as traveling into an unknown world where - among other things - the mind quiets and the energy is awakened.
✨ Conscious contact with nature – walking barefoot on the earth, staying by water or just breathing in the forest helps the body to ground and balance the rising energy.
✨ Tantric techniques – exercises that combine breathing, movement and conscious presence to allow energy to flow throughout the body.
✨ Meditation on the chakras - focusing step by step on each energy center, often with colors, symbols, crystals and/or sounds, incense, aromatherapy - to guide Kundalini's journey upwards.
✨ Deep relaxation (e.g. Yoga Nidra) – a waking dream state where the body rests completely and the mind opens to subtle energy changes.
