When humanity encounters a new era

For a long time, spirituality has often been about understanding, reflecting, and integrating insights in small steps. Many have sought knowledge through meditation, healing practices, studies, circles, and conversations – in a desire to develop their inner life, interpret the world, and humanity's place in it.

It has been an important part of humanity's search – and will likely remain so, even for those who come after us.

But sometimes a point comes where something shifts - especially in a time of great changes, which also occur faster than previous generations have ever experienced.

Technological breakthroughs, global communication, and artificial intelligence are changing how we work, create, and share knowledge.

It is a shift that affects almost all parts of society.

It feels like it is no longer just about thoughts, ideas and our own everyday lives when the world around us continues to change at such a rapid pace. I myself am convinced that we are in a time where every individual can influence how the future is shaped: through the choices we make in our lives, through how we meet other people, through what we create and share – and not least through how we use new technology, how we converse with artificial intelligence, and what questions we ask ourselves.

What is truly important?

What does it mean to be human?

From theory to action

Many people have sought spiritual understanding through books, courses, various philosophical traditions, and the like in recent decades.

But in times of great change, another question perhaps becomes increasingly important:

How do we put our values into practice in the world around us?

Spirituality may no longer primarily be about exploring the supernatural or continuing to strive to deepen various inner techniques even further.

Instead, it may well be more about putting one's recognized values into action by contributing in one's unique way to change in the world we actually live in.

When inner practices change their role

Meditation, healing, and other spiritual practices will not disappear.

However, their role, continuity, and significance can change when a deep understanding has clearly emerged – without the spiritual dimension of life diminishing.

Instead of further deepening spirituality, it can instead become something one returns to when needed. Much like a small child who does not yet have words, but still knows how to call for the proximity of their trusted person. In the same way, reflection, meditation, or studies can return naturally and continuously when the need for deeper immersion arises.

When the focus then shifts from advanced deepening to putting insights into action, this can be a time filled with new opportunities – a time where everyone can actually influence the world in a more conscious and human way.

Spirituality in a time of technological shift

Every individual in democratic societies today has been given new and in many ways beautiful opportunities to influence how we will live our lives and how we want to act in the world.

Through our choices, our actions, and through what we create and share, we can contribute to shaping the future – not only in our own lives, but also in the world that our children and grandchildren will live in.

In a time where artificial intelligence and new technology are rapidly changing how knowledge is spread and how people work, it also becomes increasingly important to reflect on how we ourselves use these tools – and what questions, values, and perspectives we bring into the digital world.

This can, for example, involve:

  • maintaining thoughtfulness in a fast-paced world
  • choosing presence over distraction
  • creating instead of just consuming
  • contributing knowledge and care – through our work, our conversations, and what we choose to share, for example, in texts, projects, discussions, in our own AI chats or blogs, and
  • thus being aware of what content, what questions, and what values we ourselves contribute to the digital world that also shapes future knowledge and understanding of humanity, where we also
  • reflect on how we use new technology and artificial intelligence in our lives

Technology changes the world – but not humanity's inner questions

Artificial intelligence and new technological tools can change how we work and how knowledge is spread.

But the fundamental human questions remain the same:

What is meaningful?

What is true?

What is beautiful?

How do we live a good life?

Precisely because of this, spirituality in practice can become even more important in a time of technological change - it helps us to hold on to the human perspective.

A new chapter in human history

It feels as if we are currently in a time where much of the spiritual understanding from previous decades is beginning to take a new form - as a way of living in a world where technology and humanity increasingly meet – but where human consciousness can still play the decisive role.

When human reflection meets artificial intelligence

Free and humanistic thinking can become very valuable in conjunction with artificial intelligence.

Technology can, among other things, help us gather knowledge, see connections, and explore large amounts of information. Humans, on the other hand, contribute with, for example, reflection, experience, values, and a sense of meaning.

When these two meet, something new can emerge.

These can be encounters that help both us and technology to understand the world more deeply, make wiser decisions, and create something beautiful for those who come after us.
